Why the Right USB Driver Matters

Every Android phone runs on a specific chipset — MediaTek (MTK), Qualcomm, or Spreadtrum (SPD/Unisoc). Flash tools like SP Flash Tool, Mi Flash, Odin, QFIL, and unlock software all communicate through a chipset-specific USB driver. If the wrong one (or no driver at all) is installed, the tool will show "device not found", "port not detected", or simply hang at connecting.

A quick way to check: open Device Manager on your Windows PC. If your phone shows under "Unknown Device" with a yellow warning triangle, the correct driver isn't installed yet.

How to Install USB Drivers on Windows

  1. 1Download the driver package for your brand or chipset from the section below.
  2. 2Extract the ZIP or RAR file to a folder on your desktop.
  3. 3Run the .exe installer as Administrator (right-click → Run as Administrator). If there's no installer, right-click the .inf file and select "Install".
  4. 4Connect your phone to the PC via USB cable in the mode required by your flash tool (EDL / BROM / Download mode).
  5. 5Open Device Manager and confirm the device now shows correctly — no yellow icon.
  6. 6Restart your PC if the device still isn't detected properly after installation.
💡 Tip: If you're flashing through EDL/BROM/Download mode, always connect the phone in that specific mode first before checking Device Manager. The driver needs to recognize the device in that mode — not in normal USB mode.

Frequently Asked Questions

Try uninstalling the existing driver first — open Device Manager, right-click the device, select "Uninstall device", and check "Delete the driver software for this device". Restart your PC, then reinstall the driver fresh. Also make sure you're running the installer as Administrator.
For some unsigned drivers, yes. Restart your PC, hold Shift and click Restart, then go to Troubleshoot → Advanced Options → Startup Settings → Disable Driver Signature Enforcement. After that, try installing the driver again.
For Qualcomm devices in EDL 9008 mode, you need the Qualcomm USB driver (also called Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader driver). For MediaTek devices in BROM mode, install the MTK USB driver. Connect the device in that specific mode before checking Device Manager.
Yes, having multiple drivers installed doesn't cause conflicts. If you work on different brands regularly, installing all of them upfront saves time — you won't need to reinstall every time you switch devices.
Usually it's the USB cable, not the driver. Try a shorter, data-capable cable and connect directly to a rear USB port on your PC — avoid USB hubs. Also disable USB selective suspend in Windows power settings.
